Maryland Exemptions

We encourage everyone to attend our training so that you are kept up to date on all the firearm laws pertaining to transportation and carry.  Prior law enforcement or military members will receive a 20% discount on any of our classes.

Exemptions to required training of the Handgun Qualification License:

Exemptions:

  • Current law enforcement officer or person retired in good standing from a law enforcement agency of the United States, the State, or a local law enforcement agency in the State.
  • Active member or retired member of the armed forces of the United States or National Guard.
  • Person purchasing, renting, or receiving an antique, curio, or relic as defined in federal law or in determinations published by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
  • Applicant is purchasing a Lower Receiver.

Exemptions to required training of the Maryland Wear & Carry Permit:

Exemptions:

Every original application and renewal application submitted after October 1, 2013, unless exempt. If you are any one of the below you are exempted.

  • You are an active law enforcement officer with a law enforcement agency of the United States, the State or any local law enforcement agency in the State.
  • You are a retired law enforcement officer with a law enforcement agency of the United States, the State or any local law enforcement agency in the State.
  • You are an active, retired, or honorably discharged member of the armed forces of the United States or the National Guard.

District of Columbia Exemptions

Exemptions to required training of the District of Columbia Concealed Carry Permit:

Exemptions:

If you are requesting an exemption to the firearms training course requirements, Section 2336.3 of the regulations requires you to provide supporting documentation, such as:

  • Firearms training provided by the National Rifle Association
  • DD Form 214 if it shows special training for marksmanship
  • Retired law enforcement officer credentials
  • Hunting license
  • Armed special police officer license
